Weymouth Hockey Star Makes NHL Debut

The Weymouth native received 12:44 of ice time, had two shots and blocked a shot in the Wild’s 2-1 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes.

Former Weymouth High School hockey star Charlie Coyle made his NHL debut last night with the Minnesota Wild.

The Weymouth native received 12:44 of ice time, had two shots and blocked a shot in the Wild’s 2-1 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes.

Minnesota officially recalled Coyle, a 20-year-old  center, from the Houston Aeros on Sunday in place of defenseman Jared Spurgeon who was placed on the Injured Reserve list, according to the Wild's Twitter page.

Coyle was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the first round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.  In June 2011, he was traded to Wild in the same trade that brought star right winger Devin Setoguchi to Minnesota.

Coyle graduated from Weymouth High School in 2010.
