Weymouth Lowers Flag to Half Staff in Honor of Peabody State Rep.
Governor Deval Patrick ordered the flag to be lowered to half staff at all state buildings.
Governor Deval Patrick has ordered that the United States flag and the Commonwealth flag be lowered to half-staff on Friday at the Weymouth Town Hall in honor of State Representative Joyce Spiliotis of Peabody who died Thursday morning of a brief illness.
Spiliotis was first elected to the 12th Essex District seat in the House of Representatives in 2002 after serving as a Peabody city councilor and Library Trustee. She was just re-elected, unchallenged, to her sixth House term earlier this month.
The Governor ordered this also be done at all state buildings.
According to Hingham Veterans' Services Director Keith Jermyn, this gubernatorial order applies to:
1. The main or administration building of each public institution of the Commonwealth, e.g. town and city halls.
2. Other state-owned or state-controlled buildings.
3. All state military installations.
