Abigail Adams Historical Society to Present Women's History Month Panel on Revolutionary Women

Abigail Adams Historical Society (AAHS), stewards of Abigail Adams birthplace, honor Women’s History Month by presenting an expert discussion panel titled Revolutionary Women:  Abigail Adams, Mercy Otis Warren and Judith Sargent Murray, on Thursday, March 27, from 7 to 8:30 pm at Council Chamber, Weymouth Town Hall, 75 Middle Street, Weymouth.

 

Three accomplished historians will speak about the roles of these important female figures and their legacy in American history. Time will be allowed for questions, and a book-signing and opportunity to meet the speakers will immediately follow the presentation.

Panel presenters include Nancy Rubin Stuart, board member of Women Writing Women's Lives at the City University of New York, sharing insight on Mercy Otis Warren. Ms. Stuart is the author of Muse of the Revolution: The Secret Pen of Mercy Otis Warren and the Founding of a Nation.

CEO of History Smiths and consultant for the Boston Women's Heritage Trail, Bonnie Hurd Smith will lend her knowledge of Judith Sargent Murray. Ms. Smith is the author of several books, including The Letters I Left Behind about the correspondence of Judith Sargent Murray.

 

Sara Georgini, Assistant Editor of the Adams Papers at the Massachusetts Historical Society, talks about Abigail Adams’ life and her relationships with other Revolutionary women.

 

Serving as moderator is Michelle Marchetti Coughlin, author of One Colonial Woman's World: The Life and Writings of Mehetabel Chandler Coit, also an AAHS board member.

 

Following the recent exterior restoration of the Birthplace, AAHS has been engaged in the evaluation and restoration of objects in its collection to better interpret the life and times of Abigail Adams. Proceeds from AAHS programs support its mission, which is to commemorate and educate a worldwide audience about the extraordinary life and times of Abigail Smith Adams, and her legacy of service to the country, and to preserve and interpret her Birthplace, where her character and ideals were formed, as a resource and inspiration for all. Society membership and donations are gratefully accepted towards this mission. 

 

Admission is $15 per person, $10 for AAHS members, at the door.
