Weymouth Columnist Wins Blogging Award

Mike Farley, earned third place honors in a 2013 column writing competition for the National Society of Newspaper Columnists.

A Weymouth blogger was recently recognized by the National Society of Newspaper Columnists in the category of Online Blog and Multimedia Column for under 100,000 monthly visitors.

Mike Farley finished third in the 2013 competition with his blog Farley in Writing, available at farleyinwriting.com.

The awards were made at the NSNC conference on June 29 in Hartford.

Farley was joined in the category by fellow New England columnists. Suzette Martinez Standring of Milton won first place, followed by Lisa Molinari of Newport, RI.

Judge Mae Israel, formerly of The Washington Post wrote, "Farley’s writing engages the reader in a seeming three-way conversation. While his style is to create dialogue between characters, the writing is pithy, humorous and captures the essence of issues that many of us deal with often. In a column about trying to punish a teenager by taking away electronics and then losing the battle, his storytelling is the kind that makes the reader nod in agreement."
