Weymouth Mom Runs Popular Resale Shop

A lifelong Weymouth resident now runs a successful thrift shop.

It’s a yard sale every day on High Street in East Weymouth at Sherry Riley’s Family Resale Shop.

Sherry Riley, a lifelong Weymouth resident and mother to two 13-year-old twins, opened the shop in July 2012  after she was laid off from her previous job.

Riley, who resides in South Weymouth,  sells everything from designer jeans to old coke bottles to household décor and wall hangings to children’s clothing and toys.

“We really like the unique one-of-a-kind old or vintage items,” Riley said.  “ A lot of people come in looking to decorate their cape house and are looking for those rustic old-type items that have a history to them.”

Nothing in the store is consignment, and everything is collected from Riley and her parents who purchase their inventory from collectors, estate sales, auctions, and yard sale and even have some of it donated.

Riley sells her items out of antique house at 34 High Street, which her parents purchased a year ago.

Her parents, North Weymouth residents, gave her the idea to open the thrift shop after she was laid off from her previous job.  Her mom helps sell the items, while her dad paints some of the older items and even creates some of the items that are sold.

Since the opening, Riley said her store is very successful.

“We have been given wonderful feedback, and for our first year, we are extremely happy,” she said.  “Our business is growing.  The people who come in typically come back with other friends.”

Riley keeps customers updated with new products by posting photos of them on her Facebook Page.

Sherry’s Family Retail Shop is open from Wed - Fri: 10:00 am - 3:00 pm and Sat: 10:00 am - 4:00 pm.  Sherry can be contacted at 781-901-6776.
