Driver Sleeps at Red Light; Driver Crashes Into Pole on Liberty

Braintree police made two impaired driving arrests.

Braintree police recently arrested two drivers for operating while impaired.

Ricky W. Lee, 49, of Weymouth, was arrested on Friday, June 13, around 1:30 a.m. Officers responding to a call came upon a Jeep Grand Cherokee that had struck a utility pole in the area of 718 Liberty St. As they checked on the operator, later identified as Lee, for injuries, they made observations that led them to believe he was impaired. He was placed under arrest for operating under the influence of alcohol and failure to keep within marked lanes.

Donald F. Chace, 39, of Braintree, was arrested on Saturday afternoon, June 14, after motorists reported to police that Chace appeared to be sleeping while stopped at a red light at Union and Ivory Streets. Responding officers found Chace asleep behind the wheel with the engine running and the transmission in drive.  After officers woke him, they made observations of drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle and questioned Chace regarding his driving behavior.  Based on statements made by Chace, he was placed under arrest and charged with operating under the influence of drugs.
