Rockland Man Charged With Starting Bridge Street Blaze

A Rockland man is accused of starting a three-alarm fire at a strip mall on Bridge Street in Weymouth Saturday morning.


A Rockland man is facing arson charges after police reportedly witnessed him starting a fire in an adult novelty shop on Bridge Street in Weymouth Saturday morning.

John F. Fernald, 44, of Rockland, was arrested on a charge of arson of a dwelling - he suffered severe burns and was taken to the hospital for treatment, according to this WCVB News report.

At 6:30 a.m., police responded to a reported structure fire at a strip mall on Bridge Street. The fire quickly climbed to three alarms and was contained by area firefighters after several hours.
