Three Local Fallen Soldiers to Be Honored in Weymouth

South Shore Tri-Town Development Corporation will hold a community observance this Saturday in honor of three local soldiers who were killed in the line of duty while stationed in Iraq. 

Marine Sergeant Andrew K. Farrar of Weymouth,  and Marine Lance Corporal Walther K. O’Haire and Army Specialist Matthew M. Pollini, each of Rockland will all be honored by area residents, religious and community leaders, government officials and representatives of the armed forces.

On Saturday their family members will help unveil a Memorial Garden at the former Naval Station in South Weymouth.

In honor of the fallen heroes, a flyover will be conducted by two CH-53 Marine Helicopters as part of the service. 

Congressman Bill Keating and Stephen Lynch are expected to be present at the memorial along with Color Guard units from the Weymouth, Rockland and Abington Police and Fire Departments and the US Marine Corps, The Boston Gaelic Fire Brigade Pipe and Drum Corps and an Honor Guard representing Army Specialist Pollini’s unit, the Massachusetts National Guard 772 Military Police Company.

The service,  which is open to the public at 9:30 a.m.  at the Southfield Town Green will also mark the 237th birthday of the United States Marine Corps.

Regular Veterans Day services will still be held on Sunday in Weymouth.
