Changes Made to End of Summer Road Race

Participants will have the option of entering the 3 mile walk/run, a 5 mile race, a 5 mile barefoot race, or the 5 mile EliptiGo competition.

Registration is still open for the sixth annual End of Summer Road Race at Bare Cove Park which will be held again on Friday this year and will include four different races.

Participants will have the option of entering the 3 mile walk/run, a 5 mile race,  a 5 mile barefoot race, or the 5 mile EliptiGo competition.

The ElipitiGo challenge will be the first ever on the East Coast, according to organizer John Childs.  Racers will compete on ElipitiGo machines on wheels, Childs said.

This year’s race will also be filmed from a sky view camera by Dragon Fly Aerials.  The recording will be offered on the website after the races.

In past years, the race only featured a five mile run and until last year, was only held on Thursday.

Many runners had asked the race day be moved to Friday because they preferred not to work the next day.

The annual five mile race is scheduled for Friday, August 23. The EliptiGo challenge begins at 6 p.m. and the races begin at 6:30 p.m.

Runners will be invited to a Post-race celebration featuring food, beer, and music in the big tent at the nearby South Shore Country Club, will be given a massage after the race,  and will be offered chip timing and water stops.  The first 200 entrants will be given t-shirts.

The cost of early registration will remain $25 for each race except for the barefoot race which will be $15. The prices will increase on Race Day.  Registration packets can be picked up at Marathon Sports in Norwell on Thursday, August 22  from 2:00- 7:00 p.m. or on Friday, August 23 at Bare Cove Park.  The races will begin at the Fort Hill Street entrance near the Hingham/Weymouth town line.
