Should Flip Flops Be Allowed in High Schools?

A 10-year-old ban on flip flops in one Massachusetts town has some students working to get it reversed.

Weymouth High School students are trying to get the ban lifted as part of their senior project,according to Fox 25, Boston.

Flip flops and backless shoes have been banned at Weymouth High School for the past decade. TheWeymouth Public Schools dress code standards expressly prohibits flip flops along with “athletic/beach sandals” in its dress code standards.

The ban was imposed by the town’s School Committee because they believed sandals posed a safety hazard, according to the report.

The School Committee’s Policy Committee is deadlocked on the issue, which is expected to be taken up by the Weymouth School Committee next week.
