A Look Inside The Newest Weymouth Apartments At Southfield

Town officials, Tri-town representatives and invited members of the community were given a tour of the new apartments at the Commons At Southfield Highland on Wednesday afternoon at the former Weymouth Naval air base.

Peter Mahoney, a Senior Project Director of John M. Corcoran and Company, who manages the 226 apartments said that 95 percent of occupancy has already been filled at the apartments.

Mahoney pointed out that the apartments are LEED certified, meaning they are environmentally friendly.  The complex uses water efficient plumbing fixtures and low energy windows, which significantly reduces the effects of the outdoor climate on interior temperatures.  It also has energy saving light fixtures and appliances and high efficiency hot water heaters, which will use less energy.

Mahoney said the green features would save the residents money on their utility bills overtime.

The new Southfield living area impressed Mike Schofield, a senior project manager for the Conservation Services Group who works with a variety of conservation programs.

“ I think it offers a comfortable sense of sustainability,” he said.  “Residents won’t have to spend as much on gas.”

Other benefits to living at the Commons at Southfield include easy access to the MBTA South Weymouth commuter rail station , open space, a growing community, weekly fitness boot camps, and cooking classes by Whole Foods.
