Weymouth High MCAS Scores Improve in English, Drop in Math & Science

Weymouth High School's MCAS scores were released this week and the overall numbers show that they have dropped slightly from a year ago in Math and Science.
While the number of Weymouth High School students who scored advanced or proficient in English had increased from 91 percent in 2012 to 92 percent in 2013, the numbers have decreased in math and science.
This year the number of Weymouth sophomores who scored advanced or proficient in math dropped from 79 percent in 2012 to 76 percent this year. Last year, only a total 20 percent of Weymouth sophomores scored a “needs improvement” or failing grade. That number jumped to 24 percent this year, according to Boston.com

In science, 76 percent of Weymouth sophomores scored advanced or proficient this past school year, compared to 81 percent in 2012. Over the one year, the percentage of students who scored, “needs improvement” or failing grade jumped from 18 to 24 students, according to Boston.com.
The numbers improved in English. A total of 35 percent of students scored advanced and 57 percent scored proficient. Only eight percent of students scored, “needs improvement” or failing grade in English

Weymouth High School ranked 182 in the state in English, 229th in Math and 161 in Science.
