Detective Galvin tracked suspect Jerry Irvin Anitus, 20, of Brockton to an address in North Providence, Rhode Island on Thursday.

The Weymouth Police detective who tracked an armed robbery suspect 48 miles away in North Providence, is receiving praise all over town.

Detective Dave Galvin tracked suspect Jerry Irvin Anitus, 20, of Brockton to an address in North Providence, Rhode Island on Thursday. Galvin contacted the North Providence Police Department and the Rhode Island State Police Fugitive Unit and advised them of his location and the suspect was arrested later that day after a police chase.

Weymouth Police believe Anitus robbed Previte’s Market with a handgun on Sept. 6 and then fled into the Linden Ponds retirement community’s parking area where he carjacked an 85-year-old woman. An accomplice in the Previte’s robbery was also arrested immediately after the incident at the Queen Anne’s Gate apartment complex.
