Weymouth Mother Reconnects With Missing Daughter

A Weymouth woman was able to see her daughter for the first time since she went missing on June 25.

Weymouth resident Mary Ahern got to celebrate a lot more this year on the Fourth of July.

She was able to finally see her daughter, who had been missing for an entire week prior.

“It was a huge relief because I didn’t know where she was,” Ahern said.

Ahern’s daughter Rebbeca Smith of Norwell was missing from June 25 to July 2. Ahern described her as “mentally unstable” and said she believed her daughter ran away.

On the South Shore Facebook Page, Ahern asked the community’s help in finding her.

Last Tuesday, an unknown Norwell residents called Ahern and said she located her daughter in Norwell.  Rebecca had returned to her boyfriends home.

“I was just amazed on how far that (Facebook post) went,” Ahern said.  “For an unknown person just to call me was amazing.”

Two days later, the mother and daughter reconnected on the Fourth of July in Weymouth.

Ahern said Rebecca is healthy and doing well.  The 25-year-old is still living with her boyfriend in Norwell.

Ahern said she does not know why her daughter ran away and where she was. She did say Rebbeca has been suffering with depression after there had been multiple deaths in her family.
